Villa Afratti is located in the outskirts of the village Kokkino Chorio (Red Village), a beautiful traditional village beside the sea in north-west Crete, just only 24 Km from the city of Chania. Kokkino Chorio is also located near Plaka, Almiryda, Gavlahori, Kalyves and Kambia.
The village of Kokkino Chorio has become a very desirable location for holidays in the last few years. Many tourists visit or stay in the village and in the surrounding villages every year, in order to enjoy the cretan nature and the beautiful beaches of the area in Almyrida, Kalyves and Georgioupolis.
The village has a breathtaking view to Souda bay, the White Mountains and the surrounded area of Apokoronas and is located in a short distance from many beautiful sandy beaches of north Crete. Above Kokkino Horio visitors can see the strangely shaped hill Drapanokefala or Calapodha (so named during the venetian occupation).
The coastline northwest of the village is an extremely interesting place for a stroll due to the ground formation and the caves, such as the cave of Petsi (or Karavotopos). Another cave called Katalimata, located at the centre of the village, is also an interesting site.
In the village the visitors can find a couple of small shops and cafes owned by individuals such as Dimitris and an old woman (Antigone) who sells bread and other minor essentials. Recently a Mini Market has opened in Kokkino Chorio (run by Giorgos) selling a range of goods, from food to house hold appliances. In the village exists a small factory (work shop) which makes hand make glass of unique beauty.
Even a greater variety of amenities (restaurants, super markets, grocery shops, internet cafe, banks etc.) are available in Almyrida (2.5 Km) and Kalyves village (5.5 Km), as well as in Vamos village (10 Km). For bars, clubs and amazing nightlife the capital city of Chania is the ideal place.
Activities in the area: swimming and sea sports, mountains walking, mountains trekking with bikes, rafting in Kiliaris River etc.
Each August, Kokkino Chorio hosts a traditional festival. Visitors can mingle with the locals and experience the traditional Cretean cusine, as well as learn about the Cretean culture, tradition and music.
In the center of the village is located a set of football nets and basketball hoops which are used by the local kids. |
